Last May, she shocked friends and coworkers with the announcement that she'd be leaving her role as Lincoln Financial Group's head of finance and strategy for retirement-plan services.
"I never thought I would retire at the age of 47 - it just crept up on me," says DeSimone. "I realized that I actually did have the money to retire, and I didn't need to be a certain age."
